Mike Tyson is hoping to fight Lennox Lewis in California, it emerged today.
In an interview with today's Los Angeles Times, Tyson's agent, Shelly Finkel, is quoted as saying the former heavyweight champion will apply for a boxing licence in California with a view to meeting Lewis at Los Angeles' Staples Center.
Staples Center president Tim Leiweke said: "It's up to the commission. Assuming they approve, yes, we would be interested - but it's such a fluid situation right now".
Tyson had wanted to hold the showdown in Las Vegas on April 6th. But the Nevada State Commission denied him a licence, citing his role in a brawl last week in New York and his decision not to continue the psychological treatment and medication prescribed for him over three years ago.
Mogens Palle, the promoter of Tyson's recent bout with Brian Nielsen in Copenhagen, has expressed an interest in hosting the clash in Denmark.
Rodney Berman, whose Golden Gloves Promotions staged Hasim Rahman's upset of Lewis in South Africa last year, is also hoping to stage a title showdown.
