A new £4 million student centre, funded by student contributions, was officially opened at University College Cork yesterday. It will be called Devere Hall in honour of Mr Jim Devere, an Irish-American who has contributed £2 million towards the college's building programme.
The President, Mrs Robinson, was due to perform the official opening yesterday but - due to high winds her helicopter was unable to make the journey. The ceremony was conducted by the Lord Mayor of Cork, Alderman Jim Corr.
