The possible connection between gum disease and the incidence of heart attack will be examined in a new study co-ordinated by University College Cork's Department of Epidemiology and Public Health.
The study will involve collaboration between the medical and dental schools at the university.
It focuses on the hypothesis that certain infectious agents may play a role in the development of heart attacks.
