United Nations - The UN Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan, and the Security Council both called on Indonesia yesterday to halt infiltration of armed militias from West Timor into UN-administered East Timor.

This followed the fatal wounding of a Nepalese UN soldier, Pte Devi Ram Jaishi, and the wounding of three other Nepalese soldiers and an East Timor civilian in a clash with an armed group near the town of Suai on Thursday.
