The UN Security Council has lifted a six-year-old ban on Liberian diamond exports aimed at stopping so-called blood diamonds - used to fuel civil wars - from reaching the world market.

A resolution passed unanimously by the 15-nation body provided for the council to review that decision after 90 days, said the council president, british ambassador Emyr Jones Parry.
