Dublin Corporation has undertaken not to proceed with the construction of the 400ft-high millennium "Spike" monument on O'Connell Street before an Environment Impact Statement (EIS) is drawn up.
The undertaking was given by counsel for the Corporation to Mr Justice Smyth in the High Court and will continue until procedures under Part Nine of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act 1994 have been completed.
These require the corporation to submit an EIS to the Minister for the Environment. The Minister, after public consultation, will then take decide whether the corporation is entitled to proceed with the project.
