An original, one-off signed photograph of Dublin rock band U2 has been sold to undisclosed bidder for €12,000.
The black-and-white picture, taken by the renowned rock photographer Anton Corbijn, is signed by all four members of the band and dates from 1982 - before they rose to worldwide fame.
A spokeswoman for art auctioneers James Adam of St Stephen's Green, Dublin, said the photo "sold well" after exceeding its guide price of €6,000 to €10,000.
The picture is an original image from Corbijn's first ever photoshoot with U2. Taken in Sweden in 1982, it was the second choice for the gate-fold cover of the Waralbum released the following year.
Corbijn's best known image of the band is the Death Valley picture used on the cover of The Joshua Treealbum released in 1987.
"The current work is of particular interest and rarity as it pre-dates the Death Valley work and we believe it to be the earliest photograph by Corbijn of the band to reach the auction market to date," according to the auctioneer's website.
The seller and the buyer of the previously unseen photo asked to remain anonymous.
The spokeswoman said there was "significant interest" in the lot this evening "which resulted in the photo fetching such a high hammer price".
