Manchester United have been named as favourites to sign Dutch international midfielder Edgar Davids from Juventus.

newspaper said today the club held talks with Davids' advisors last week in London.
It said Davids, 28, had asked for wages of stg£50,000 pounds after tax, which had forced Premiership rivals Arsenal and Chelsea out of the running.

However, the newspaper said Spanish club Real Madrid were also interested in signing Davids, who has a contract with Juventus until 2004.
