A THIRD level physics and chemistry research facility which has undergone a €5 million refurbishment was opened in Cork yesterday by Minister for Education Batt O’Keeffe.

Facilities at the University College Cork (UCC) Kane (Science) Building, have been largely unchanged since it opened in 1971.

They have been upgraded in a move which the institution is confident can improve its research efforts and reputation.

“This refurbishment means our researchers are now working in a modern rather than outdated environment,” said Anita Maguire, professor of pharmaceutical chemistry at UCC.
