A new international campus established by an American university in Co Waterford is aiming to tap into an estimated €1.8 billion European market in intelligence studies.
Mercyhurst University, based in Pennsylvania, specialises in analytics and intelligence. It has already held two global intelligence conferences in Dungarvan where it has now set up its first European centre. Based on Lower Main Street, the campus could move to a bigger location to allow it to cater for more students, lecturers and researchers following indications of support by the Government.
A number of students and faculty from the college will spend spring term in Dungarvan every year, while Mercyhurst also hopes to use its first international centre to establish links with Irish and European academic institutions.
Minister for Finance Michael Noonan said at the official opening that while the link was starting on a small scale, he was impressed that the Dungarvan campus would form the university’s European centre for intelligence research, analytics and training.
