The Minister for Education must avoid creating a two tier technology sector in her attempts to resolve the continuing dispute over the status of colleges, the Union of Students in Ireland has said.
The value of all qualifications in technology colleges must be recognised, the union said, adding that objective criteria, needed to be established under which RTCs could be redesignated as institutes of technology. The union welcomed the inclusion of a student representative on a new working group on the issue.
