Vandals rampage through north Belfast

Police in north Belfast and Newtownabbey were today investigating a spate of overnight vandalism incidents.

One man in his early 20s was today being questioned by detectives after cars, phone boxes and bus shelters were damaged.

During the night, vandals went on the rampage in the West Circular Road in the north of the city, smashing the windows of four cars.

In Bellevue Park, a window was shattered and the handbrake was released resulting in a car rolling down a hill.

There was also damage to three cars in Ballysillan Park, two in Beverley Road, three on the Ligoneil Road and a car in Rodney Parade also had a side window smashed.

Bus shelters and phone boxes were also shattered in the Carmoney Road in Newtownabbey.

Police received reports about the vandalism after 9am and were looking for information about four men seen in a Volkswagen Passat which was possibly silver in colour.
