The State's longest-serving county manager is to retire

The State's longest-serving county manager is to retire. Mr Paddy Donnelly, head of local government in Kilkenny since 1972, is expected to announce his retirement next month.

Mr Donnelly (62) has been a civil servant for 45 years and was private secretary to late Mr Neil Blaney, when he was minister for local government.

He is a former chairman of the Health and Safety Authority.
