Residents and visitors to Dublin can expect to see light emanating from the Spire monument for the first time since March when two days of maintenance works are completed today.
Yesterday a tall crane was visible at the monument as work to realign lights at the top of the 120 metre Spire got under way on O'Connell Street.
Further general maintenance and cleaning of the monument is due to continue today at a total cost of €85,000.
A spokesman for Dublin City Council said the decision to use the specialised crane this weekend was taken after difficulties arose in accessing the lights at the top of the Spire.
It was decided to wait until this weekend for the crane to be brought in, rather than to do so over two weekends.
He said the work on the lights involved a "realignment" after they slipped from their suspension. This led the lights not to function since March, but it was just a "minor hitch".
