A CASE involving the film The War of the Buttons has finally ended with a settlement announced in the Cork Circuit Court yesterday.

In 1994 the parents of a then 14 year-old boy, who was one of the extras in the David Puttnam film, went to court to stop the release of the film because of nude scenes in which the teenager appeared.

They secured a temporary injunction against five defendants, including David Puttnam, trading as Enigma Productions, and Warner Brothers Production Ltd.

As a result of Judge Patrick Moran's ruling the defendants were forbidden to publicly show any scenes Skibbereen boy was featured.

The parents of the teenager objected because children in the crowd scenes were depicted as being nude although the court was told that they were wearing body stockings.

An agreed settlement was announced between the film makers and the parents, who cannot be named, before Judge Moran yesterday.

Under the terms of the settlement, the defendants are prohibited from distributing, publishing or releasing in any way to the public scenes in The War of the Buttons featuring the plaintiff.
