Met Éireann has warned that gale force winds are likely to affect many areas of the country today.
The forecaster said stormy conditions would bring gusts of between 100 km/h and 130 km/h to parts of Connacht, Ulster and north Leinster.
"The most damaging gusts are expected in exposed coastal and hilly areas of Ulster and Connacht," Met Éireann said in a weather warning.
The stormy conditions will also affect tides and Met Éireann said there was a risk of some flooding on northern and western coasts.
Blustery conditions are expected to continue tonight with further gusts of 85km/h to 100 km/h in the north and northeast.
