A bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of a man on sexual charges after the alleged victim claimed to have been offered £10,000 not to give evidence at his trial. Judge Cyril Kelly ordered that the accused man be brought before him this morning at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
The alleged victim was in court on foot of a bench warrant issued some weeks ago for failure to appear and give evidence at the accused man's trial. The jury had to be discharged and a new date set for the hearing.
Giving evidence on oath, the witness claimed to have been telephoned by the accused man before the abortive trial and urged not to appear. The alleged victim told Judge Kelly of having met the accused man twice since then in a midlands town and being given sums of £30 and £120.
