Two Waterford men who were detained in the United States for eight weeks after they had overstayed their visas have returned to Ireland, it has been reported.
The men are reported to have arrived in Dublin this morning on a flight from Chicago. They had been in the United States on three-month holiday visas but continued travelling within the country even after the visas expired.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs said she could not comment on individual cases, but confirmed the Department had been aware of the case and that its consular services had offered "all possible assistance".
