A court has been told that the Parnell’s GAA Club, Coolock, Dublin, with its 2,000 members, 35 football and hurling teams and 2,000 members, will today officially move to its €20 million new state-of-the-art clubhouse, with grass and astroturf pitches, in Coolock village.
Granting the club a new certificate of registration as a sports club, Judge Alison Lindsay in the Circuit Civil Court described the development as exciting and interesting for Coolock and the surrounding community.
Club treasurer Tony Fitzpatrick told the judge that the club had not received “a penny” in grants from the previous or current governments, “but we will be looking for a substantial contribution in the next tranche of National Lottery payouts”.
Barrister Dorothy Collins told the court that the club had built a new clubhouse, three new pitches, a daycare centre, residential units and car parking facilities at the site of the old college grounds.
Dublin goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton plays his football with Parnell’s.
