Forecasters said that while a few showers will persist tonight near some western and southern coasts, the night will be dry elsewhere with good clear periods.

Dry weather will become established across the country on Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures reaching some 20 degrees in places on Saturday.

Easterly winds will persist, becoming strong at times on the Leinster coast.

The mean temperature at Dublin airport for October last year was 11.1 degrees, and 12.2 degrees in Belmullet, Co Mayo. It was 13.1 degrees in Valentia, Co Kerry, according to the national meteorological service.
