Wexford meeting called off

Racing:Today's National Hunt meeting at Wexford has been cancelled following an inspection. Although the track was raceable following a Monday afternoon assessment, heavy rain had left the track partially waterlogged earlier in the day and a further 11 millimetres of rain fell overnight.

The news will disappoint trainer Roger McGrath, who had hoped to get smart mare Thynetocatcher back out on track in the Saltees Island Mares Novice Hurdle. Based locally at Cappoquin, McGrath’s six-year-old took a maiden hurdle at Killarney in the spring and chased home Top Madam in a Grade Three at Down Royal earlier in the month.

McGrath plies his trade bringing through young horses but also dabbles in the point-to-point field and saddled Kilty Storm to finish second to Baby Run in the 2010 Christie Foxhunter at Cheltenham.

“I just have a small team, a couple for this and a couple for point-to-points,” he said. “I sold this mare to a man who lives down the road, and that’s why she’s still with me.”
