Management at City of Derry Airport admitted yesterday they were embarrassed following the disclosure that an aircraft became bogged down on a runway for over an hour when its wheels sank several inches into the surface after it landed there on Wednesday afternoon.
Investigations have been launched into the incident, which involved holidaymakers coming home on a First Choice flight. Because two aircraft had landed earlier, there was no room for the aircraft to disembark its passengers close to the terminal building.
It was redirected to another part of the airport where it encountered difficulties.
