Wholesale prices post decline in December

The annual percentage change showed a decrease of 1.6 per cent in December 2004, which compares to a similar decrease of 1.6 per cent in November 2004.

In the month, the index for export sales decreased by 1.2 per cent and the index for home sales decreased by 0.4 per cent.

In December, there was a monthly decrease in energy products of 1.2 per cent, while petroleum fuels decreased by 4.6 per cent.

The price of energy products increased by 14.1 per cent in the year since December 2003, while petroleum fuels increased by 6.6 per cent.

In the month the most significant changes were decreases in office machinery and computers down 1.4 per cent and radio, television and communication equipment down 3.1 per cent.

Contributing to the annual change was a decrease in office machinery and computers, down 14.7 per cent while there was an increase in pharmaceuticals & other chemical products, up 6.9 per cent.
