Wicklow recount result faces further delays

The result from the recount of General Election votes in Wicklow is still not known after a 9 p.m

The result from the recount of General Election votes in Wicklow is still not known after a 9 p.m. deadline passed without an announcement.

The Returning Officer hoped she could make a final announcement at 9 p.m. this evening but as the 9th round distribution of elected candidate Mr Joe Jacob's vote began, a problem with the distribution of Ms Liz McManus's vote was spotted.

This evening, the Returning Officer Ms Breda Allen announced the quota had fallen by 11 votes and that she would make a series of announcements through the evening declaring the results of each count one at a time.

Earlier, the two candidates, Ms Mildred Fox and Mr Nicky Kelly, who are battling to gain the last seat in the constituency left the count centre in Arklow along with the public and the media at the Returning Officer's request.
