Wire fragments have been found in crackers contained in the popular children's product Dairylea Lunchables, makers Kraft Foods confirmed yesterday, prompting the recall in the UK of a number of batches of Lunchables as a precaution.
The products affected are all Lunchables Stack'ems, of the variety which combine crackers, cheese and cooked meat. Four batches come with a 200ml drink.
The recall involves one batch on sale in Ireland: Tasty Chicken in a 101g packet, plus a 200ml drink, with a use-by date of 6/10/03. The manufacturers were alerted by five calls in the UK to its customer hotline - one from a parent whose child had suffered a minor mouth abrasion.
The company said: "Kraft Foods have found evidence that the cracker biscuits in a number of varieties of Lunchables products may contain small fragments of wire.
"Investigations show that this is due to an isolated manufacturing incident on a production line at a third party supplier."
Products recalled in the UK include 110g packets of Tasty Chicken with use-by dates between 3/9/03 and 26/9/03. - (PA)
