A woman, who claimed her hair started falling out after a retint treatment in a Peter Mark salon, has been awarded more than £4,000 damages in Dublin Circuit Civil Court. Ms Sharon Byrne (29), of Cromcastle Green, Coolock, told Judge Harvey Kenny things started to go wrong after she received two chemical treatments on the same day.

She told her counsel, Mr Richard O'Donnell, that her hair became kinky and started to break. Almost two years after the treatments her hair was still not in a presentable state. Judge Kenny said he was satisfied something had gone wrong with the procedure and she had been left with a dishevelled look for more than a year.

Mr Anthony Barr, counsel for Peter Mark, was granted a stay to facilitate consideration of an appeal to the High Court.
