A woman has been fined £11,500 and been given a 12-month suspended sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for managing and running brothels in and around the city centre.

Justine Reilly (33), of White Oaks, Clonskeagh, pleaded guilty to four sample counts of brothel-keeping and one of managing a brothel on dates from October 1999 to March 2000.

She admitted full responsibility for running the brothels and told the Garda she was earning approximately £3,000 a week working in the business.

Det Sgt Mary Delmar of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation told Mr Bendan Grehan BL, prosecuting, the charges arose from an ongoing Garda investigation called "Operation Gladiator".

The charges related to three premises on Parnell Street, Portobello Harbour and New Row Square, respectively.

Reilly accepted full responsibility for the offences. She told the Garda that three years previously she had worked as a prostitute and decided to set up her own agency because of the unsavoury characters she had met in the business.

Det Sgt Delmar said Reilly revealed she got £30 out of the £80 for a half hour and £50 from £120 for one hour and that she had advertised the brothels, as well as advertising working positions, in In Dublin.

Judge Yvonne Murphy imposed an £1,500 fine relating to the first premises and £5,000 for each of the other two.
