Gardaí investigating a serious sexual assault in Clonsilla, Dublin, last weekend are appealing for a taxi driver to come forward and help them in their investigations.

Detectives at Blanchardstown Garda station would like to speak to a taxi driver who picked up a lone woman in her 20s outside a pub on Parnell Street in the city centre at about 12.30am on Sunday last and brought her to Castlefield Park housing estate in Clonsilla.

It was at this location that the woman suffered a serious sexual assault after she was approached by a group of men.

The group took her to the park area where she was sexually assaulted and raped.

Three neighbours in a house nearby heard screams for help and came to her aid. The attackers, however, made their escape on foot.

The three neighbours who came to the aid of the woman called the ambulance and gardaí. Two people were later picked up for questioning by gardaí close to the scene and a third man was arrested at a house close by.

Two of the men have been charged with robbery offences in relation to the incident. The other man has not been charged as gardaí have not established his link to the incident.

It is believed that the taxi in which the woman travelled was an old-style Mercedes about 10 years old which was dark in colour.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Blanchardstown gardaí on 01 666 7000 or the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.
