Tehran - Two weeks after 5,000 women defied orders to stay at home, women returned to Iran's biggest sports complex to claim it as their own as the Olympic-style flame marked the formal opening ceremony on Saturday of the second Islamic Women's Games.

Two weeks ago, the stadium was the scene of unprecedented celebrations following Iran's soccer triumph over Australia in a World Cup qualifier. The government ordered women not to go to the stadium to welcome home the Iranian team, but some 5,000 women defied the order.
