A man who was sacked for failing to provide documentary evidence that he brought his child to hospital on a day he was absent from work has been awarded €7,500 under the Unfair Dismissal Act.

Valeriu Andronachi, Ballyfermot, Dublin, took a case for unfair dismissal against TMS Barrier Services Ltd, Cavan Enterprise Centre, Dublin Road, Cavan.

He was absent for two or three days, the Employment Appeals Tribunal heard. It was company policy that employees provide documentation if absent.

Acknowledging that the claimant contributed to his own demise when he failed to produced the documentation requested, the tribunal awarded Mr Andronachi €7,500.
