An Irish boy has been rushed to hospital after getting into difficulty in a hotel swimming pool in Ibiza.

The five-year-old was rescued from the water by a life guard and revived at the three-star El Pinar Hotel in Cala Llonga.

Local reports said the unnamed boy suffered cardiac arrest and had to be given CPR to save his life. He was transferred to the island’s Can Misses Hospital before medics decided to transfer him in an ambulance to Son Espases Hospital on the neighbouring island of Majorca because of the seriousness of his condition.

He is reported to be stable and recovering in a children’s ward.
