German police have stepped up security on Angela Merkel’s official government jet after they discovered a man sleeping in the bed she uses on long-haul flights.
Police stormed the jet in Cologne/Bonn airport shortly after midnight on July 25th to find inside a 24-year-old bodybuilder identified only as Volkan wearing nothing but his underpants.
In a modern-day twist on the tale of Goldilocks, there was no porridge involved but a reported drug cocktail of marijuana and ecstasy.
The man has been brought to a local psychiatric clinic on suspicion of suffering from schizophrenia.
Identified only as Volkan T, theGranted a temporary pass, he made his way to the government jet, gained access to the cabin and cockpit and caused a reported €100,000 damage by spraying the interior with fire extinguisher foam and triggering the emergency slide.
This alerted airport police. They surrounded the aircraft and spent four hours trying to negotiate with Volkan via a megaphone.
As he was sleeping off his excess, police received no response. When he awoke, he reportedly barricaded himself into the aircraft.
In the subsequent melee, Volkan was bitten in the leg by a police dog named Milow.
He now faces charges of trespassing and property damage as well as dangerous aviation interference.
