France train attack hero Spencer Stone was repeatedly stabbed in Sacramento, California and is in stable condition, media reports said on Thursday.

Mr Stone was stabbed on Wednesday night, NBC reported. Mr Stone and two friends who grew up together in Sacramento subdued a gunman on a high-speed train bound for Paris in August.

Mr Stone, Alek Skarlatos, Anthony Sadler, and British businessman, Chris Norman, fought suspected 26-year-old Moroccan jihadist Ayoub El-Khazzani on August 21st and subdued him.

They won accolades from the presidents of France and the US for their efforts.

Mr Stone is being treated in a hospital in the Sacramento area, said Lt Col Christopher Karns, who added that details are sketchy. Mr Stone is assigned to Travis air force base in California. Lt Col Karns said the matter is being handled by local law enforcement officials.

Reuters could not immediately reach Sacramento police for comment.
