Donald Trump’s public quarrel with the parents of a dead soldier is the latest in a long line of fights he probably was better off not picking.
Speaking to some people on Hillary Clinton's campaign team at the Democratic convention in Philadelphia last week, Irish Times London Editor Denis Staunton learned just how willing Trump's opponents are to use this habit against him.
"They're very interested in the way in which they can get under his skin. They've got behavioural psychologists advising them. And so you'll often hear for example, Elizabeth Warren going on about this 'thin-skinned little man'. Now it seems that just drives him crazy, to the point where this idea of him being erratic, being thin-skinned, undisciplined, unable to control his emotions, is starting to become an accepted view of him," says Staunton, reporting on the latest twists and turns in both campaigns for this week's World View podcast.
Also on the podcast, Irish Times resident boffin Dick Ahlstrom explains the science, economics and politics behind the on-again, off-again Hinkley Point nuclear plant. Finally, Suzanne Lynch reports on the progress made in EU-UK Brexit negotiations.
