THE detective garda injured in the shooting in Adare, Co Limerick, last week in which Det Garda Jerry McCabe was murdered, is to be moved to Belfast City Hospital. Det Garda Ben O'Sullivan is to be seen in Belfast by Dr Barry Craig, who has experience of treating bullet wounds.
Det Garda O'Sullivan is currently being treated at St Nessan's Orthopedic Hospital, Croom, Co Limerick, for injuries to the shoulder and hand. A hospital spokeswoman described his condition as "comfortable".
Meanwhile, senior Garda sources said yesterday that they were not aware of blood having been found in a car used by the IRA gang which killed Del Garda McCabe. It had been reported yesterday that blood was found in the car and there was speculation that one of the gang was hit during the shooting.
Three people, including one woman, are in Garda custody in Limerick in connection with their investigation.
The three were arrested on Thursday evening and bring to 14 the total number of people questioned during the investigation.
One of the men, aged 39, was arrested in Limerick at teatime on Thursday. The other two - a woman in her 30s and a man in his 50s were arrested later that evening.
The search was continuing in Limerick for members of the gang involved in the shooting. Gardai believe seven people were involved in the attempted robbery of a post office van in Adare on Friday of last week, in which the two detectives were shot.
