Paris - The captain of the oil tanker Erika that broke up off the Brittany coast has been charged with endangering the lives of others and with maritime pollution and put in detention, legal sources said. Capt Krun Mathur, who like his crew is of Indian nationality, has been in custody at Brest police station in western France since Monday. The supplier of the oil cargo, TotalFina, could also face prosecution, said legal sources.
