Wrong poster at Tory photo-call

Britain's election campaign is less than 24 hours old but already one of the parties has managed to chalk up its first gaffe

Britain's election campaign is less than 24 hours old but already one of the parties has managed to chalk up its first gaffe. Scottish Conservative grandees gathered eagerly in the centre of Edinburgh for the unveiling of their campaign poster - a giant picture of a grinning Mr Blair framed by the slogan "No plans to keep promises". But the poster-bearing lorry which turned up for the photo-call was still emblazoned with an advert for supermarket giant Tesco.

Mr Bill Badby, the 62-yearold lorry driver from southern England, then struggled for 30 minutes in stiff breezes to stick the right poster over the top - without a single offer of political support.
