A young man who died after taking ecstasy in Co Waterford at the weekend has been named as Mr John Mansfield (21), from Kilmacthomas.
Mr Mansfield was found after he took ecstasy at the flat he was sharing with a friend in The Grove, Abbeyside, Dungarvan.
He was discovered by neighbours from the downstairs flat, who had called to complain about loud music at about 3.15 a.m. on Sunday.
His neighbours in the converted house found Mr Mansfield slumped over the table and called for an ambulance.
Emergency first aid was given at the scene but the young man slipped into unconsciousness and died later at Waterford Regional Hospital. A post-mortem and toxicology tests were performed at the hospital yesterday evening.
The amount of drugs taken will not be known until a full toxicology report is completed, which may take a couple of weeks.
Supt Michael Blake of Dungarvan said young people needed to be educated on the tragic consequences of taking ecstasy.
"This tragic event brings a lot of grief and sadness to this youth's family. I believe the taking of ecstasy by young people is a matter that should be highlighted by many agencies, including the health boards and the Department of Education.
"It needs to be pointed out to young people the dangers of taking such drugs."
