A youth, who got into a punch-up at a courthouse in Dublin, has been cleared of committing a breach of the peace.

Gardaí arrested the 17-year-old at the Great Hall in the Criminal Courts of Justice on Parkgate Street on January 15th when a row broke out among feuding members of the same family.

The teenager pleaded not guilty to a charge under the Public Order Act for engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour, in connection with the incident.

Yesterday at his hearing at the Dublin Children's Court, Garda Insp Noel Doolan told Judge Ann Ryan that the teenager had been acting aggressively and had "squared up" to another man.

He said the youth had approached a relative and "threw a kick" at the man who threw a cup of tea or coffee at the teen.

CCTV footage of the incident was shown to the judge who said it seemed that the teenager had lashed out in response to his relative's actions and she dismissed the case.
