The proposed deal to provide free family doctor care to all children under six has divided doctors, with the plan rejected by the National Association of General Practitioners, The Irish Times reported this week.
However, it has already been backed by the Irish Medical Organisation, which claims to represent a majority of GPs.
Subject to the participation of individual GPs, some 270,000 children stand to benefit from the new scheme, which is seen by the Government as an essential plank in its plan for universal healthcare.
