In an article in the edition of September 4th, concerning third level RD, it was stated that Science Foundation Ireland’s funding stood at €8.2 billion.

This is incorrect. The €8.2 billion is, in fact, the total amount of funding for the Government’s SSTI (Strategy for Science, Technology Innovation) and spans the period 2006–2013. Science Foundation Ireland’s budget under the SSTI for 2009 is €176 million.
