Sir, – I wish to correct the contention that “Europeans had to wait until 1984,when Renault released the Espace, before we could see what it was like to carry seven people around without needing a public service vehicle licence” (“The best seven-seat cars you can buy with budgets of €10,000 to €50,000 upwards”, Motors, June 22nd).
Volvo, Mercedes and Citroën all had seven- or eight-seat options from circa 1973. But none topped the Peugeot 504 Family Estate with its forward-facing three rows. I should know as my own father ferried (literally) his total family of eight (plus camping gear) to France in ours in 1973! – Yours, etc,
