Sir, – The trouble with percentage-based pay rises is those at the top of the pay scale get much bigger net increases than those lower down. Yet those same already well-off politicians, council officers, union leaders, quango bosses and public sector bureaucrats actually pay no more for fuel and food than the rest of us.
