Sir, – Marcos Montes, Brazil’s minister for agriculture, livestock and supply, announced the ambition of Brazil to become the largest exporter of dairy in the world. What will this mean in terms of biodiversity loss and carbon sequestration on a global scale? Meanwhile Irish farmers and their families are being continually castigated for their efforts and their willingness to engage. It is mentally exhausting! Who do you think will fill the established export markets when the well of Irish dairy runs dry? To what extent will these trade agreements truly value the food, beyond price? What is Minister for Climate Eamon Ryan’s response to the announcement? – Yours, etc,
