Sir, – In view of the increased erosion of civil liberties, free speech, free press and the imprisonment of dissidents in Hong Kong by the Beijing regime, and now its recent alarming militaristic posturing towards Taiwan, is it finally time for University College Dublin to review its relationship with its Confucius Institute?
This organisation which is part-funded by UCD, and therefore by default the Irish taxpayer, is effectively a mouthpiece for the Chinese government and its anti-democracy policies. – Yours, etc,
