Sir, – Bernice Harrison in her radio review (August 6th) accurately describes RTÉ's dropping of the ball when it comes to their bank holiday schedules and in particular their current affairs output.
But she could be referring to their entire August scheduling and also the Easter holidays, as I’ve noticed in the last few years. It seems to be a quaint anachronism that’s long past its sell-by date in this age of mass media.
Is it, as she suggests, that RTÉ presumes that all its listeners and viewers are also on holidays and that less news is happening in the world in August?
I don’t think any private sector company would schedule most of their leading lights to be on holidays at the same time with a vastly reduced output.
