A chara, – Diarmaid Ferriter seems to enjoy criticising the behaviour of tourists who appear to him “as the international poseurs” who “sullied the place with their excessive vanity” (“Greece burns while the tourists fiddle with their phones”, Opinion & Analysis, August 12th). The high priests of academia and journalism are a joyless bunch and are merely recycling a joyless puritanism that serves only the interests of corporate “green” capitalism and subsidy farming while the rest of us pick up the bill.
Thankfully we have the miracle of foreign and domestic travel to cheer us.
I write this from beautiful Killarney and I even took a few holiday snaps of myself and the family (vain poseur that I am!). – Yours, etc,
