Sir, – The debate about whether or not RTÉ should broadcast the Angelus on radio and television as a time for prayer or reflection for people of all faiths and none makes your letters page from time to time. Some of the themes, like the sand sculptor and the traditional bookbinder, shown on RTÉ television just before the Six One News, make for pleasant enough viewing.
However, rather than continuing with the piercing and repetitive bong sound from the bells, would it not be better to air something a little more soothing?
How about the tintinnabulation of wind chimes blowing in the breeze? – Yours, etc,
