Saudi Arabia and human rights abuses

Crushing dissent

Sir, – The shocking abuse of Saudi women (“Saudi woman sentenced to 45 years over social media posts”, World, September 1st) requires to be highlighted by our Government and the European Union and action taken to sanction the murderous regime responsible. Lack of such action, as Michael Jansen reports, has “emboldened Saudi authorities” to crush dissent and execute 120 people in the first half of 2022. Every responsible agency and organisation in Ireland should support strong responses from our Government which should raise these human rights abuses in both the EU and UN with a view to sanction the Saudi authorities. – Yours, etc,

FERGUS O’FERRALL,

Dublin 18.
