An Post – a one-stop shop for citizens

Serving communities into the future

Sir, – Further to “Post offices unlikely to offer ‘additional State services’” (Business, September 2nd), on the recent interdepartmental group report regarding government service provision, An Post has, over many years, made the case that the provision of more government services via the post office network is a key pillar of the company’s strategy for building a vibrant and sustainable national post office network meeting the needs of citizens and communities across the country.

Indeed, the interdepartmental group report states: “An Post’s current Corporate Strategy envisages a transformed Post Office Network where it will continue to invest in the network and new omnichannel capability, delivering new products and services. This investment allows the network to provide a gateway to Government services for customers, both online and in person. The Post Office Network could also play an important role in relation to digital inclusion”.

An Post can play a key role to streamline the provision of government services as set out in the current programme for government.

Our ambition is very much to provide a one-stop shop for citizens as the front office for government, leveraging the 910-strong network of offices across the country, giving the State a human presence, providing greater convenience for citizens and ensuring a sustainable network of post offices serving communities into the future. – Yours, etc,
